Baby Led Weaning

Baby led weaning has simplified my already simple life and I couldn't be happier about that. Having Hank has been pretty simple. We cloth diaper so we never run out of diapers or have to go to Wal-Mart late at night for a new box. He was exclusively breastfed for the first 9-10 months of life. No packing bottles or pumped milk or formula. Wherever we were H had food warm and ready. No washing bottles or pump parts either except for the 2 days that I work. Growth spurt? Hungrier than usual? No problem, mama is here with milk and honey flowing. Enter Hank's tenth month of life at the beach. H began eating solid food and loving it after showing all the signs that he was truly interested. Not that expensive mushy stuff in the jars. I can't be packing extra stuff in the diaper bag. Also, you know I like to save pennies so the expensive part doesn't fit into life at the Grey house (no more green, YAY!). H just ate what we ate. We started with fruits and vegetables. He loved cantaloupe, tomato, watermelon, grapes, broccoli, you name it, he ate it. After his first birthday we introduced grains and then tiny amounts of meat after that.

I just wanted to share and document for myself the wonderful benefits of BLW. If you are interested search videos on youtube, "like" Baby Led Weaning on FB, and educate yourself.

**We began introducing food at 6 months but he wasn't actually ready... enter gagging and puking. We would try again every couple of weeks. He started grabbing for food early on but that's just what they do, they try to grab everything. It wasn't until he was 10 months old, with some teeth, that he really showed readiness. No more tongue thrust, no more gagging, etc.

Since this is my blog and I am documenting for my "history files" please don't be offended if you parent differently. This is just what worked for me (and my sister.. BTW-thanks for helping me along the way, Hollie!). If you think this would work for your family, awesome! It takes a village and I'm all about simplifying life, so this was obviously the perfect fit for us.
